Weekly Roundup 7

i. I managed to get a place on the Pop-Up Common Room curator-led tour of the Basquiat: Boom for Real exhibition at the Barbican - a nice way to finish the term.

ii. I resigned myself to the fact that I wasn't going to squeeze in any more studio time before the Christmas break so went to see Cézanne Portraits at the National Portrait Gallery. Unfortunately, despite glowing reviews, I just found the show dull. I really want to learn to appreciate Cézanne but I just can't seem to find a way in.

iii. I’ve tried a lot of processes this term but nothing has stuck. The term ended with a group crit where I showed (a failed attempt at) a woodcut and some recent monotypes and talked about my wanting to return to my initial proposal (the ‘painterly print’). This was reassuringly well received and I look forward to getting back into a practical studio routine next year.
